To see something, someone or somewhere in any detail I believe that it is important to make a visual record. Whether that recording be through a digital medium, a written or recorded description or more importantly through marks made by drawing or painting, a pictorial account in two or three dimensions is the perfect way to capture an image. After being a lecturer, tutor and initiator in art education for over 18 years in the UK, I set out on a journey of discovery that led me here to Andalucia in late 2008. |
Through observation the subject becomes more familiar and understood, and is imprinted more firmly in the mind. The process may involve interaction with other people, landscapes or objects, challenging situations and risk taking investigation which will all enhance the resulting work. This is part of a journey of exploration and discovery
This is an opportunity for you to come and share in a part of this journey through these holidays in Lubrín, and to make your own journey of exploration and discovery where we share the experience of working creatively in this beautiful environment, exploiting the amazingly strong light, warm weather, relaxed ambience and varied, timeless stimulation of this very special, preserved corner of Andalucia.
I work with a variety of media and like to experiment, but at the core of my work are drawings, recording what I see, discovering new and varied methods along the way. I have exhibited my work here in Andalucia and plan to exhibit internationally as my work develops.
I would like you to come and enjoy the experience of creativity in a place that continues to surprise and delight me on a daily basis. The local town and surrounding area are typically Andalucian, the food and drink is delicious, the local people kind and welcoming, the peace is deafening and the pace is slow giving time for thought, concentration and reflection.
It’s rather like stepping off a fast moving motorway and discovering a delightful narrow quiet lane where the pace is controlled by you rather than everyone else.
